Three Lecturers from the Biology Department, FMIPA, University of Lampung, Participated in Open Water Diver Training and Certification

The Department of Biology, FMIPA, University of Lampung has once again demonstrated its commitment to developing lecturer competency through basic diving training and certification activities (Open Water Diver). A total of three lecturers from the Biology Department, FMIPA, University of Lampung took part in training and certification activities which were held on 22–24 May 2026 in collaboration with the Official Partner SSI Diver Center in Lampung, namely Lampung Diving Center.

As for The lecturer who took part in this activity was Dr. Jani Master, S.Si., M.Sc., Ahmad Ikhsanudin, S.Si., M.Sc., and Nida Lidya Susanti, S.Pd., M.Sc. This activity aims to increase the capacity and skills of lecturers, especially in supporting educational, research and community service activities related to aquatic and marine ecosystems.

Training is carried out in stages starting from theoretical learning in class, practicing basic diving skills, to direct practice in open water (open water). In the class training session, participants receive material regarding the basics of diving, diving safety, use of scuba equipment, underwater communications, and emergency handling procedures.

Furthermore, participants carry out diving practices to hone technical skills and adaptation in the underwater environment. The practical stage in open water is an important part of the certification process, where participants carry out various simulations of diving skills according to SSI international standards (Scuba Schools International).

The entire series of activities is then closed with theoretical and practical exams as a condition for obtaining Open Water Diver. Through this activity, it is hoped that lecturers will have additional competencies that can support the development of field-based learning, especially in the fields of marine biology, aquatic ecology, conservation of biological resources and underwater research.

The participation of lecturers from the Biology Department, FMIPA, University of Lampung in this training and certification is also a positive step in expanding the network of collaboration with professional institutions in the field of diving and water environmental conservation.
